To facilitate and accompany the Company's present period of strong growth, Costa is committed to organizing a wide range of training programmes, aimed at supporting development and constant improvement of capability, proficiency and ability for all on board personnel.
Technical Training
Occasional training courses to meet international regulations (IMO-STCW) and internal company requirements, on specific subjects such as safety, health, environment, survival and rescue, fire, first aid etc.
Managerial Training
To integrate technical and managerial expertise, deck, engine and hospitality officers follow a training programme aimed at increasing their capacity for comprehensively contributing to the complex management of the ship organization. This training precedes participation in more intense managerial development initiatives that involve the whole company management, both on board and shore-based.
Costa and recent school leavers/graduates
Costa Crociere, in collaboration with the Provinces of Genoa and Savona, organizes free Masters courses for Trainee Officers each year, which last six months, three of which are spent on board Costa ships. The Masters courses prepare personnel for the main on board positions: Trainee Deck Officers, Trainee Engine Officers and Trainee Chefs. For those who get the best marks for each category, based on the score at the end of the course, a brilliant career on board ships of the fleet is guaranteed.
Training for on board placement
For new personnel, depending on their position, there are pre-boarding and job training activities that allow swifter introduction to their role. All on board personnel are furthermore involved in a workshop on excellence of service that facilitates contact with and respect for Costa values and style at work. Given the on board presence of a heterogeneous and diversified customer base in terms of language and customs, language courses are organized to improve communication skills as well as efficiency of service and intercultural management courses in order to better understand and best respond to different needs.
Professional training: the Costa Preparatory Campus
Costa aims to guarantee pre-embarkation training to all new onboard employees. In view of this aim, through the Costa Preparatory Campus, the Company provides training centers in its main recruiting countries, through the establishment of its own centers, as well as through agreements with prestigious local tourism universities. Today, Costa has three training centers in the Philippines, one of which is dedicated to Deck & Engine Personnel. We also have two in Indonesia, one in India and another in the Dominican Republic. These centers are especially dedicated to personnel training in regards to Galley, Restaurant, Bar and Housekeeping areas. In these centers, some onboard structures are reproduced, such as the guest cabin and the galley to simulate the actual work experience aboard our ships. These centers are also used for continual training and professional development of current Costa personnel and crew.
