Let us go back in time by visiting the wonderful Inuyama castle, one of the most ancient in Japan that still maintains its original structure, so much so that it is considered a national treasure, only to jump back to the present day with a stroll through the lively Osu district, dotted with shops and restaurants.

What we will do

We board our coach and head north towards the city of Inuyama, only a few kilometres from Nagoya.

Our destination is the magnificent castle of Inuyama, built in 1537 and now considered a national treasure, as it is one of the few original castles remaining in Japan.

The imposing keep with its typical curved roofs is an amazing example of Monoyama architecture and, from the top of its 19 metres, enchanting views can be enjoyed of the surrounding mountains and plains.

We then head back to Nagoya to visit the district of Osu, one of the city’s most popular shopping destinations characterised by long galleries (the typical shotengai) home to over 1,200 shops.

We have some time to wander around the countless shops selling electrical goods, mangas, videogames and second-hand clothing. Restaurants, cafés and small grocery shops provide the perfect occasion to enjoy a short break with typical Japanese specialities.

During our stroll, we have the opportunity to admire the large Osu Kannon temple, which combines Buddhist and Shinto elements. It was originally built in 1333 and moved into its current position in 1612, even though what we see today is an accurate 1970 reconstruction after a fire destroyed the original.
