Excursion 'DISCOVERING BERLIN (intransit)'

Description

A touching journey amongst those places symbolic of the period in which the German capital was divided into East Berlin and West Berlin.

What we will see
  • Port of Brandenburg
  • Charlie Check Point
  • Remnants of the Berlin Wall
  • Neue Wache

What we will do
  • Berlin, as we know it today, is the upshot of a huge reconstruction project which began after the fall of the Wall. On this excursion, accompanied by our official guide, we will re-live the difficult period during which the capital of Germany was not unified but instead divided into East Berlin and West Berlin.
  • Our panoramic tour begins with a photo opportunity at the Port of Brandenburg, one of the most emblematic places in the city, and at the Charlie Check Point, the recognised point of division between the two Germanys.
  • During the tour we will pass by remnants of the Berlin Wall.
  • Our tour will end in front of the Neue Wache. The monument was erected upon the orders of Frederick William III of Prussia as the headquarters of the Royal Guard, the name of which in German means "new guard", and as a monument in memory of the German soldiers who died during the Napoleonic Wars. Over time, the memorial has been dedicated to victims of various wars, until it became, in 1993, a monument dedicated to victims of war and violence in general.
