What we will see
  • Pura Lingsar temple complex
  • Sayang
  • Centre of Mataram
  • Nusa Tenggara Barat museum

What we will do
  • Our tour will begin with a visit to the large Pura Lingsar temple complex, just a short distance from Mataram. Built in 1714, it is still used by Hindus and the local Sasak people that practise Islam Wetu Telu there, a form of divine worship.
  • Inside, we will find a pool containing sacred eels, which are hard to spot but can be lured out of their hiding places by throwing boiled egg shells into the water. Once we have seen an eel, we can make a wish and tradition says that it will come true.
  • From Lingsar, we will travel to Sayang with its typical market selling fine porcelain hand made by local artisans and typical baskets woven from Indian shot, banana leaves or other plant fibres.
  • Then we will travel to the centre of Mataram to wander around the local shops looking for incredible gems from the Lombok region, which we can find at very affordable prices.
  • Our last destination is the Nusa Tenggara Barat museum, which focuses on the history and culture of Lombok. We can admire a collection of hand-made clothes, the intricate detail on the kris daggers, a small Dongson drum and other carefully displayed objects.
