Excursion 'SAN GERVASIO MAYAN RUINS AND RELAXING ON THE BEACH'

Description

We set off to discover Cozumel Island by exploring Mayan ruins on the island's most important archaeological site, and then we relax on a beautiful beach with all comforts: an extraordinary combination of history and seaside for a day with a difference!

What we will see
  • San Gervasio archaeological site
  • Relax on the beach at Punta Morena

What we will do
  • We leave the port sitting comfortably on an air conditioned coach and after a short journey we reach our first destination: the magnificent San Gervasio Mayan archaeological site, the most important site on Cozumel, once the political centre of the Mayan community on the island.
  • It was once a sacred city dedicated to Ixchel, goddess of the moon, fertility and childbirth. San Gervasio is a complex with temples, ceremonial buildings and palaces divided into four areas which are linked by a network of roads, still magnificently preserved, where it is possible to observe some fragments of frescoes in the circular building known as the "Big House".
  • In ancient times, Mayan women came here to spend a week of worship and prayer because the sacred city was a place of pilgrimage where a pilgrimage had to be made at least once in a lifetime.
  • As we walk around the site, our guide tells us of the ancient history of the Mayans, explains their culture and shows us the remains of their civilisation. Our imagination runs wild trying to picture what it was like to live here in ancient times!
  • After the visit we head for Punta Morena Beach, which boasts excellent facilities and amenities, with white sand and crystal clear waters, where we can relax and enjoy the Caribbean Sea.
