Excursion 'BYE BYE BUENOS AIRES'

Description

A tour to discover the most interesting sights in Buenos Aires - from the Recoleta a La Boca neighbourhood to Plaza de Mayo and Avenida 9 de julio - and appreciate the cosmopolitan and exuberant atmosphere of this extraordinary city before flying home.

What we will see
  • Recoleta neighbourhood, monumental cemetery, Evita Perón tomb
  • Avenida 9 de Julio, Obelisco, Colón theatre
  • Plaza de Mayo, Casa Rosada, Metropolitan cathedral
  • La Boca, Caminito

What we will do
  • We reach the Recoleta barrio by coach, an elegant residential neighbourhood famous for its social scene as well as for the Basilica of Our Lady of Pilar and monumental cemetery, a true gem with amazing chapels and statues and charming tree-lined avenues. The chapel of the Duarte family is located here and is home to the tomb of Eva Duarte Perón, better known as Evita.
  • We continue towards Avenida 9 de Julio. Inaugurated in 1937, it is one of the widest roads in the world. It cuts the heart of the city in half, passing in front of the Obelisk built to celebrate the 400 years of the city, and Teatro Colón, one of the largest opera houses in the world and a magnificently elegant building.
  • We visit Plaza de Mayo with its baroque Metropolitan cathedral and Casa Rosada, the Government House. This square was the setting for numerous revolutions and uprisings and is still a symbol of the mothers of desaparecidos (i.e. The so-called madres de Plaza de Mayo), who meet here every Thursday and march around the square in the hope of forcing the government to recognise the atrocities committed during the dictatorship of Jorge Rafael Videla between 1976 and 1983.
  • We visit the picturesque La Boca neighbourhood, famous for its history: it was the first port of Buenos Aires and emerged as a blue collar neighbourhood where most of the Italian immigrants (mainly from Genoa) who arrived during the 19th century looking for fortune lived. The neighbourhood is characterised by coloured houses decorated with flags, statues and posters of Diego Armando Maradona. The most characteristic road of the neighbourhood is Caminito, the last stop on our tour. Here, we can walk among the lively colourful houses and the stalls and take one last picture of the tango dancers in the street.
