  • While we tour the city aboard this vintage means of transport, we can appreciate its interior*, completely refurbished by Aciociación Uruguaya Amigos Del Reil” (Uruguayan Association Friends of the Railway) - all the original machinery and parts were maintained, but with a touch of modernity thanks to the air conditioning and other facilities such as * two restrooms per coach. A truly comfortable trip!
  • We discover that the non-profit association was established in 1954 with the purpose of safeguarding a considerable part of the Uruguayan historical and cultural heritage by restoring some of these trains. It is an ongoing task involving a large number of coaches, wagons and locomotives.

  • Among the many monuments, we admire that of José Buschental, a 19th century shareholder who built a 175 acre site and brought over many exotic fish from Asia to fill the streams he created as well as other plants and animals from all over the world.
  • The tour continues in the direction of the Legislative Palace, considered one of the three most beautiful government buildings in the world* thanks to its marble structure.
  • We then move towards Batlle y Ordóñez park with its realist monuments and the Obelisk of Montevideo. and visit the Estadio Centenario-Historical Monument of World Football, named after where the first FIFA World Cup was held.
