What we will do
This pleasant excursion includes a walking tour of the charming Medieval city of Visby and a visit to the main sights on the island of Gotland, a popular tourist destination thanks to its lovely nature and rich history.
We set off from the old wharf area in Almedalen, now a park overlooking the sea offering amazing vies over the Old City.
A short walk leads us to the Botanical Garden, where we admire a large variety of flowers and plants including exotic species, roses and magnolias as well as many bird species and even observe one of its most precious treasures and a true rarity: the sacred Ginkgo Biloba living fossil.
We then continue our walk through the Old City of Visby walking along its lovely cobbled alleyways and observing its splendid archways, courtyards and squares as well as the majestic St. Mary's Cathedral. It’s not difficult to understand why Visby’s historic city centre was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
After our tour of the Old City, we leave Visby behind to descend along the coast and reach the picturesque fishing village of Gnisvärd, where we make a brief stop to take a few pictures of the amazing landscape. We then move on to see an ancient funerary monument, the largest example in all of Gotland of a typical stone ship.
On our way back to the ship, we make another brief stop at the Gallows hill to enjoy a lovely view over the coast and Visby.
